E-Cigarette Use: Safe or Unhealthy?

As cigarette use declines, youth e-cigarette use has tripled in just one year, surpassing the use of traditional cigarettes among middle and high school students, according to a survey done by the Center for Disease Control. The increase in e-cigarette use offsets declines in use of more traditional products such as cigarettes and cigars but is not approved by the FDA. Although stores may deny minors from purchasing vaping products, the online presence does not. Marlborough’s health department considers e-cigarettes under the same laws of tobacco use, which recently changed in the city.

Vikki Crowley, a three time cancer survivor — who’s still conquering the fight– had no support group, no one to turn to when days were dark. That was until she was introduced to the Relay for Life in Marlborough.

MEDC Celebrates Another Successful Year in Marlborough

Community leaders, local business owners, contractors and developers are gathering for the annual MEDC founders event, celebrating many successful years in Marlborough. The MEDC is continually bringing new business to the city; dropping the vacancy rate in Marlborough by over 12 percent compared to neighboring communities. Executive Director, Tim Cummings, says the key to their success is having good relationships with all the various stakeholders. The organization’s also bringing business to the city through different events such as a youth one coming in August.

Marlborough High Wears Purple for American Cancer Society

The wave of purple is a sign of celebration for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer. Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. Promoting Relay for Life brings hope to those affected and fighting the disease in our community, including those who participated.

Concussion Study Shows Worse Academic Effects

A new study shows that kids with concussions are more likely to acquire academic problems. According to Med-Page Today, active concussion symptoms were associated with more problems in school and worse academic effects -- regardless of when the concussion occurred.

Marlborough Police K-9 Proven Reliable

Marlborough Police K-9, Kaiser, began working as August of 2013. During his time in Marlborough he’s tracked over 30 miles sniffing out lost children, wanted suspects, guns, narcotics and more.

Marlborough officials are working with NERAC to allow public safety to borrow surveillance cameras for security purposes.
