In this episode of Community Connections, host Jack Brzenk sits down with Davi Sousa, a 16-year-old sophomore at AMSA Academy in Marlborough, who organized a community blood drive titled "Be Someone's Hero Today" in partnership with the American Red Cross. The drive was held at the Immaculate Conception Church and drew 32 donors, surpassing the original goal of 26. Davi shares the deeply personal story behind the effort: his brother's battle with leukemia and the urgent need for blood and platelets that the family experienced firsthand. He also opens up about a book he's writing, inspired by the fairy tale stories his mother told his brother during hospital stays, stories he hopes to donate to a children's hospital one day. A young man with a big heart and even bigger plans, Davi discusses his vision for future blood drives, how to get involved through the American Red Cross website, and why the temporary discomfort of donating blood is nothing compared to the lives it can save.
