MEDC Issues Request for Proposals for Future French Hill Development

Calling all developers! The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation is looking to spruce up French Hill, turning the old train depot site into an exciting new place for residents to enjoy.

The MEDC issued a request for proposals to be turned in by June 15th from area developers to help turn the Lincoln/Mechanic Street into something remarkable. While the 2.33 acre plot had been previously zoned for automotive and business, the Meredith Harris of the MEDC says they're looking to make it a bit more exciting. "We're hoping that we're able to find a developer to buy the land from us, work with us, the city and MAPC on some different zoning language. That area we see as being sort of like a restaurant alley, or a mixed use area," says Harris.

Harris says they'd like to hear from residents to learn more about what they would like to see, keeping in mind a vision of a walkable mixed-use space ."We'd like to see some retail on the first floor, potentially some housing up on the upper level floors, and we think that since it's right next to the Rail Trail it really has the opportunity and the potential to be a transformative project for the city."
