MEDC Hosts Annual "Marlborough Works" Job Fair

The Courtyard Marriott's Marlborough Ballroom was busy on Tuesday evening, filled with candidates hopeful to take the next step in their careers. The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation's 7th annual job fair brings together local companies to match up with local residents currently seeking new employment. "We still have a lot of employers looking for good help, and this is our opportunity to showcase some of those companies and try to connect some of these jobs with the local people," says Arthur Vigeant, Mayor of Marlborough.

This year, Mayor Vigeant says, the MEDC kept recent college graduates in mind by opening the doors early at 4:30 for them to provide them with the opportunity to find their first job here at home. "We had about 50 graduates that pre-registered, which is wonderful," says Meredith Harris, Executive Director of the MEDC.

Harris also mentioned that one local company is looking to bring approximately 200 jobs to the city, and is looking for applicants to fill those positions. "Allegro Microsystems, which is moving over from Worcester coming to Marlbourgh this summer, actually we approached them a couple of weeks ago and said 'Hey, would you guys like to start recruiting during our job fair?' And they're here tonight, bringing with them about 200 employees over the next couple of months and taking up 50,000 square feet on Crowley Drive." says Harris. "As many Marlborough folks we can get to work in the Marlborough companies, we think is a win."
