Boston Children's Hospital Hosts Marlborough Blood Drive

MARLBOROUGH- If you took a drive by Marlborough's Central Fire Station on Thursday, chances are you may have noticed a bright blue bus parked outside. Yet it's not a new addition to the fire station you were seeing-that bus was the Boston Children's Hospital Mobile Blood Donation Center. Marlborough Fire Department hosts the mobile donation center once a year to help collect blood donations for BCH.

"A lot of people think of trauma and sick kids but a lot of it is people who need blood donations every week to survive," says Lyla Lane, Blood Donation Technician at the mobile unit. Lane says while for some giving blood can be a scary thought, they do their best to make donating easy, comfortable, and even a little bit of fun. "There's always common misconceptions of it hurts, it takes so long..we make this process fun at Children's," Lane says, waving a t-shirt that each donor receives. "We get you in and out within a half an hour, generally. We're a good time on this bus, we make sure that you enjoy yourself and it's a very easy way to donate."

Mayor of Marlborough Arthur Vigeant stopped in to give back, smiling from his donation chair as he made small talk with his technician and praised the local Fire Department for hosting the drive. "Everyone is always looking for more blood, all the hospitals and centers out here, so it's a great opportunity. The Fire Department does a great job in putting this on every year, Eric Christensen runs the whole thing and I'm really glad he started this a few years ago. It's really important for the City to come down and do their part."
