MARLBOROUGH- Massachusetts started the 'Stop the Spread" campaign to help eliminate further transmission of coronavirus. The state opened testing sites in communities across the commonwealth with cases higher than the state's average, Marlborough was one of them.
This testing is completely free and open to anyone, even those without symptoms. Marlborough has testing sites at Marlborough Hospital, Jaworek Elementary School and AFC Urgent Care on Boston Post Road West.
At the Marlborough Hospital location, more than 3,000 people came to get tested in the first few weeks. However, the large turnout doesn't correspond with a spike in community cases. Chief operating officer and chief nurse at Marlborough Hospital, John Kelly, says many of the people wishing to get tested are just curious or looking to travel.
The testing site sees only one to three positive tests a day.
This campaign is designed to find the asymptomatic cases and Kelly says that is exactly what it is doing. The site provides rapid results within 24 hours. Testing started July 10 and is available through August 14.
