Government Producer

Part Time: 20-30 hours/week


WMCT-TV in the city of Marlborough, MA is seeking a part-time videographer to film various meetings and community events in the city. Regular assignment would involve 1-4 evening meetings each week, with occasional evening or weekend assignments for events. This position also maintains WMCT-TV’s presence on our website and social media accounts with regular posting and updates to content.


Job Description

Whenever possible, a list of meetings and events will be provided to the videographer one week in advance. There are typically 1-4 meetings each week, from Monday-Thursday. In addition there are occasional city events, usually held in the evening or on weekends, such as school sporting events, parades, and festivals. When meetings and special events are not scheduled the position will assume a regular evening schedule at the WMCT-TV Studio which we anticipate to be Monday-Thursday 4:30PM-9:30PM. This schedule is flexible to be adjusted.


Meetings

The videographer will set up and test audio and video feeds from the robotic PTZ multi-camera set-up in city hall. The meetings typically last from 1-2 hours. Using the switcher the videographer will follow the action of the meeting, selecting camera shots based on whoever is speaking. They will be responsible for recording the meeting to an external hard drive as well as DVD and server backup. After the meeting they will end the live broadcast to television, power down all equipment and return to WMCT-TV studios where they will edit the meeting video and upload it to various VOD (video on demand) platforms including Cablecast, Youtube, and Vimeo. They will post the meeting to our website and email the video link to city departments as requested.


Social Media

The position will develop a plan to deliver information across all social media platforms including but not limited to WMCT-TV, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, & email. Working with the Executive Director they will devise a strategic plan to schedule posts as well as a unified voice and visual aesthetic. WMCT-TV currently uses Canva to build social graphics, however the employee may use other tools such as Photoshop or InDesign.

Events and Studio Productions

The videographer may work with other WMCT-TV members or independently to capture the best moments of each event. Editing of these videos can be more creative, with dead spots eliminated, exciting close-ups, interviews, and more creative moments. The videographer will share any editing ideas beforehand and may work with other staff members to deliver videos in a timely fashion. This position may be called upon to fulfill other duties as needed, including camera operator, sound engineer, technical director, director, editor, or on-screen talent.


Skills and Training Required

Education or training as well as a demonstrated aptitude for learning video production equipment and software including by not limited to Video Switchers, Tightrope by Cablecast, FinalCut, Premiere Pro, ECamm. Additional training will be provided.


Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Drivers license, must provide own transportation.

Sense of timing and the ability to work independently.


Compensation

$16.50/hour (20 hours a week)
