The Marlborough Public Library held community outreach meetings to reveal the overall design and layout for the library expansion project. The Library was built in the early 1900's and received and addition in 1969. The addition will be completely demolished but the original Carnegie building will remain. With the demolition some of the Carnegie building that has been hidden for over 50 years will be restored.
The city purchased 3 properties for the expansion. This gives them the space needed to expand the parking lot from 22 spaces to 35 and to create a courtyard.
Some of the highlights of the main level is 3 study rooms that can sit up to 4 people, 2 tutoring rooms that can seat 2 people, and 2 meeting rooms that can seat up to 20 people. All these rooms will have public access. The bathrooms will now be on the main level and there will also be a cafe. Food will not be sold in the cafe, people are encouraged to bring there own food and socialize in this area.
The second flood will have an expanded children's rooms and a new dedicated preschool room. It will also include a new auditorium that will seat up to 200 people and can also be split into two rooms.
In September the Library will temporarily move to the Walker Building and construction will start this November and is estimated to be finished by June of 2022.
