It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of a true Marlborough legend and lifelong resident, Nunzio "Nunzy" Martino, who left this world at the remarkable age of 101. Nunzy's life was a testament to resilience, courage, and unwavering patriotism. He was not only a beloved member of our community but also a World War II Naval Veteran who served on the USS Benjamin Franklin during one of the most challenging periods in history.
Nunzy's journey took him from the heart of Marlborough to the high seas of WWII, where he played a pivotal role as part of the crew of the USS Benjamin Franklin. This ship, carrying the hopes and dreams of a nation at war, was subjected to a fierce attack by the Japanese forces. In the face of adversity, Nunzy exemplified the true spirit of a hero. Out of the 3000 crew members on board, he was one of the incredible 704 who survived the harrowing attack. His strength, determination, and camaraderie during that time stand as a testament to the indomitable human spirit.
