Welcome to The Book Drop February Edition!
February is packed with exciting events at the library, and we're thrilled to share all the details! From jigsaw puzzle swaps to mindfulness workshops, concerts, and thought-provoking discussions, there's something for everyone. In honor of Black History Month, we also take a deep dive into the history of libraries in America and their connection to the Black community, including the inspiring story of the Freedom Library movement.
We also explore the fascinating history of Black activism and libraries, including the story of Dr. Gwendolyn Zahara Simmons and her work with Freedom Libraries. This episode highlights the crucial role libraries have played in fighting systemic racism and providing resources to underserved communities.
Plus, discover some must-read books by Black authors such as Beloved by Toni Morrison, The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead, and many more. These books offer powerful insight, and are essential reads for everyone.
Have a laugh with To Have and to Hold, a quirky romance gameshow, where we have quite the guests take the stage to advocate for their desire to love!
We also have special guest Karen Mattes, head of technical services at the Marlborough Public Library, join Matt for a 1 on 1 interview to discuss the upcoming Second Chance Book Sale. You will NOT want to miss that!
