----------------------------------------

Why Do People Like Horror?

Matt takes a look at why people enjoy horror, from the creativity, emotion, and entertainment of the genre to the way horror reflects the fears and events of the time in which it was created.

----------------------------------------

Playaways:

Did you know the library now offers Playaways? Playaways are battery-powered devices preloaded with an audiobook. You'll need your own headphones to listen, but we supply the batteries. Matt discusses more details regarding the pros of using Playaways, and how to take them out. Come play, one away!

----------------------------------------

Staff Selections - Short Reads:

This month, we asked our staff to pick books that were short, including:

"Galatea" by Madeline Miller

"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson

"Friends in High Places" by Rob Smythe

"Carmilla" by J. Sheridan Le Fanu

and more!

Our librarians highlight short works ranging from Greek mythology and Gothic horror to unsettling short stories and strange speculative fiction.

From everyone at the Marlborough Public Library, thank you for watching. We hope you have a wonderful October and a spooky Halloween season, and we hope to see YOU at the library!
