The November Marlborough Mirror Is Here: Nonprofit Neighbors, a Local Hero, and Plenty of Turkey Day Fun

Issue #16 of the Marlborough Mirror is out, and it’s packed. If you’ve picked up a copy at one of our local spots, you already know the Mirror is Marlborough’s community newspaper, created by WMCT-TV. If you haven’t, here’s what’s waiting for you this month.

The Hero of Touchette Square

Every day, drivers pass Touchette Square at Granger Boulevard and Main Street. This Veterans Day, WMCT-TV’s Mike Lawton tells the story behind the name: Captain Robert “Red” Touchette, a Marlborough kid who loved to fly. In 1962 his F-86 Sabre caught fire, and he chose to stay with the plane rather than eject over a populated area. It’s a story every Marlborough resident should know.

Nonprofit Neighbors Returns

Every November, WMCT-TV shines a spotlight on the nonprofits making a difference in our city. This year’s five live conversations airing at 1:00 PM are:

  • Wed., Nov. 4: Fruitful Beginnings Preschool

  • Mon., Nov. 9: Marlborough Community Cupboard

  • Thu., Nov. 12: The Addiction Referral Center and Sweats for Vets

  • Thu., Nov. 19: The Parmenter Foundation

  • Mon., Nov. 23: The Mayor’s Office and the Charity Fund, with Mayor Christian Dumais

Watch on Comcast 8, Verizon 2134 (HD) and 34, or stream at www.wmct-tv.com, on Facebook and on YouTube.

Stories from Around Town

  • Jr. Reporters at Bach to Rock: Our Junior Reporters Emery and Sammy visit a music school where students from age one to their 70s jam together in bands. Yes, someone once asked to learn Mongolian throat singing.

  • Panther Field Hockey Eyes a Postseason Run: Sports Director Matthew Besachio talks with Coach Michaella Mahoney about a team that has improved its win total three seasons running.

  • School Safety and E-Bike Rules: What parents should know after the October 1 community night with Marlborough Police and Marlborough Public Schools, from the district’s new safety protocols to e-bike helmet and lighting rules.

  • Garden Club Scholarship: The Marlborough Garden Club is offering up to $2,000 to a graduating Marlborough student passionate about the environment. The deadline is March 20, 2027, and no transcripts or grades are required.

A Month Full of Things to Do

The November City Events calendar includes Marlborough Restaurant Week (Nov. 9–15), the Veterans Day Parade on Main Street (Nov. 11), the Kits for Kids 20th Anniversary Kit Building Event (Nov. 12), Harvestfest at the Homestead (Nov. 14), the 19th Annual Natural Living Expo (Nov. 14–15), Friendsgiving at Marie Esther (Nov. 18), and the Marlborough vs. Hudson Thanksgiving Day football game on Nov. 26. You can watch that one live at www.wmct-tv.com.

Fun for Every Age

Don’t skip the good stuff: a Thanksgiving word search, trivia (answers are on the flip side), jokes, a Kid Corner “Turkey Race” activity from Lilian Roque, a Drawing with Mark polar bear tutorial, and a game of “Can you find Cam?” hidden somewhere in this edition.
