Canon XA55 Audio Issues with ATM Extreme Pro SGI - SOLVED!

Had terrible audio quality when connecting your Canon XA55 (or any Canon camera ending in "5") to an ATM Extreme Pro SGI switcher via SDI? We spent hours troubleshooting this frustrating issue and finally found the solution!

The Problem

Poor, distorted audio coming through SDI connection despite perfect video quality from Canon XA55 to ATM switcher.

The Solution

SDI/HDMI Scan Mode Setting

  • Navigate to: Output Terminal Settings → SDI/HDMI Scan Mode

  • Change from "PP" to "PSF Forced 1080i"

  • That's it! Clean audio restored instantly.

What We Tried (That Didn't Work)

✗ Adjusting gain settings in ATM menu ✗ Manual audio level adjustments on camera ✗ Switching between auto and manual mic settings ✗ Changing 3G SDI mapping levels (A vs B) ✗ Audio format changes (2-channel vs 4-channel)

Camera Settings Mentioned

  • Output Terminal: SDI

  • SDI Output: 1920x1080

  • 3G SDI Mapping: Level B

  • Audio Format: 2-channel (4-channel also works)

This fix should work for any Canon camera model ending in "5" when experiencing similar SDI audio issues with ATM switchers.

Couldn't find this solution anywhere online, so hopefully this saves you the hours of troubleshooting we went through!

🔧 Equipment Used:

  • Canon XA55 Camera

  • ATM Extreme Pro SDI Switcher

  • SDI Connection
