Assabet Valley Tech Hosts FIRST Robotics Lego Competition

On Saturday, Assabet Valley Regional Tech hosted its annual FIRST Robotics Lego Competition, bringing together 36 teams to compete for the top spot.

FIRST Lego League is a non-profit organization set on a mission to inspire young people to get involved in science and technology fields at an early age. FIRST hosts competitions at various high schools around the country to encourage children to invest their time and energy into learning about how to create a robotic lego, required to complete certain tasks to advance to the next round in a bracket style elimination that leaves only one team standing.

"We made a Lego Robot which is controlled by a brain-well, it's called a mindstorm-and the mindstorm, we can put different programs in and there's different blocks that make motors and different types of sensors run," explains Arun Kandasamy of the winning team, Robo Rampage. The team of 13-year-olds says it took them three weeks to put together their robot that put them into first place.
