Trash Turned Into Fashion at Marlborough High's first ever "Trashion Show"

November 15, 2019

On Friday November 8th, The Fashion Club of Marlborough High school hosted their first "Trashion" Show. It was a fashion show but the outfits were made of recycled materials and each one had a story behind them. The competition was open to students in the MetroWest area.

The rules of the competition were: all designs had to be made of materials that have been previously used or would have ended up in a landfill, garments had to be appropriate for a family audience and that garments must be modeled by the creator or a model of their choosing.

Judges for the event included up and coming fashion designer Rufus Dixon from Donna Karen, Samantha Morais a fashion designer in both New York and Boston and Christine Amatrudo the Young Adult Librarian from Marlborough Public Library.

Contestants were judged based on originality, use of materials and quality of workmanship creativity.

2019 Ocean Spirit Award recipient, Bonnie Combs was in attendance at the event and presented the winners with their prizes. Prizes were sponsored by 1-800 Got Trash, Republic Trash Service, and Marlborough Junior Woman's Club. $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place.

Third place winner went to Katlynn Butland for her outfit, “Drowning in trash.” Second place went to Jacquelyn Dillon for “Edgy Cleotrasha”

First place went to Melody Uribe for, "Teenagers Run on Dunkin" which she was inspired to do because she noticed how much teenagers and everyone in general really do run on Dunkin Donuts.

The Fashion Club is hoping to make this a yearly event. To view some of the amazing creativity that these students brought out, please click the video.
