Support Group Helps Families Who Have Lost Children to Substance Abuse
Steve Messineo, President of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, recently interviewed Cheryl Juaire of Team Sharing, Inc a non-profit support group for parents who have lost children to substance abuse disorders.
After losing her own son Corey to an overdose in 2011, Juaire realized she suffered grief alone until connecting with other parents who experienced similar tragedies. In 2017, she formed Team Sharing to provide mutual support through gatherings, outreach, and bereavement assistance.
Juaire explained that the group helps the children left behind who suffer trauma from losing a parent. They’ve organized drives for backpacks, winter coats, and Christmas gifts to support these families. Their annual Christmas party in Maynard aims to create joy for children who have lost a loved one.
Team Sharing also advocates for change. They recently got approval for overdose awareness specialty license plates in Massachusetts. Proceeds will fund their programs supporting families. They need commitments for 750 prepaid applications before production begins.
Juaire welcomes monetary donations through their website to fund their Christmas initiatives and other efforts. Companies can also help by donating gifts for children during the holiday season. She urges anyone affected by substance abuse disorders to reach out to connect with the Team Sharing community.
