Today marks the second day of a carefully controlled burn in the Concord Road area. Don't be alarmed by the smoke—it's not a wildfire but a crucial conservation effort. This 615-acre site spans Marlborough and Sudbury, home to a globally rare Pitch Pine and scrub Oak ecosystem that depends on periodic fires for survival. Marlborough Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder explains the significance of this burn for biodiversity and ecosystem health. Coordinated by Star Tree Wildfire Management under optimal conditions, this prescribed burn prevents larger fires, restores native habitats, and safeguards wildlife. Join us as we delve into the science behind this essential conservation practice.
